Books in the library cover a wide range of topics relating to the history of the local area, including the coal, iron and steel industries, the railways, geography, literature and sport and leisure. Local newspapers are available on microfilm, dating back to 1862, and the census, electoral and valuation roles for the area are also available for consultation, on both paper record and on CD-Rom. Ordnance Survey maps for the Motherwell area cover a range of dates from 1858 onwards and also available are a selection of maps for surrounding towns and villages.
