FORTHCOMING EXHIBITIONS FOR 2004.

SUMMERLEE HERITAGE PARK

Food Glorious Food

10th September to 20th October

An exhibition looking at our changing relationships with food over the past 150 years. Displays include what we cooked just to stay alive and its labour-intensive preparation; the development of chore-busting equipment for ordinary households; and the onset of branding, marketing and pre-packaging of foodstuffs as the era of supermarkets and television took its hold on the high street. Lastly, the exhibition looks at recent trends towards healthy eating. There will be a full teachers pack available and visits by school groups are welcomed, but must be pre-booked.

The Snow Queen's Palace

3rd December to mid-January 2006

Summerlee's seasonal fun exhibition for the younger visitor. This year the theme is based around the classic children's story by Hans Christian Andersen. There will be lots of 'hands on' activities, dressing up, games and competitions. Nursery and primary school classes welcome, but please call to pre-book as space is limited.

MOTHERWELL HERITAGE CENTRE

Miffy Comes to Motherwell

17th September to 30th October

One of the most endearing creations from the world of children's books, Miffy the rabbit, comes to Motherwell for this special loan exhibition. Miffy, the creation of author and illustrator Dick de Bruno, shows how books can be brought to life through a fascinating blend of artwork and imaginative story-writing. The centre will be running a series of schools and other workshops throughout the time of the exhibition.

Scotland's Dream Team

November

A Scottish National Portrait Gallery exhibition. Scotland's Dream Team is a collection of 12 portraits of Scottish footballing heros from the post-war era. The 'team selection' was painted by artist Mark I'anson in association with ideas from staff at the Herald newspaper. The exhibition reveals the essential character of the players such as Billy McNeil. Denis Law, Jim Baxter and Kenny Dalgleish at a time when their talent thrilled fans at home and abroad.

Peter Pan's World

End-November to early January 2006

A seasonal exhibition for the younger visitor. The great children's classic comes alive in the heritage centre's gallery, complete with wrecked pirate ship, treasure chests and even a scary pirate or two! Lots of fun and games, dressing up, competitions and seasonal prizes make this must-visit show over the holidays.

Small nursery and early-primary groups welcomed, but please call the centre to book in advance, as space will be limited. Look out for the Peter Pan-themed Sunday craft workshops too!
